The Wheelchair Advantage

Yes, I am still in this wheelchair. Although, I am starting to walk. I can walk from one side of the living room to the other, while gripping my walker with all my might, and my hubby holding me up, catching me when I fall backwards (only about 3 times) in about 5 minutes, I think (I wasn't really timing myself. It felt more like 30 minutes, but it was over a commercial break, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't that long). And yes Kalynne, I have learned how to do wheelies just for you ;). So, I figure, since I'm gonna be stuck in this thing for a while I may as well figure out why it is more convenient than walking. So, although I much prefer walking, these are the reasons you should all be jealous of me...

1) It is so much easier carrying my kids around the house. I just put them on my lap, and away I go, for as far as I need. And I can take BOTH kids at once. AND my arms don't get tired from holding them....see, I know all you moms are wishing you had one of these now ;)

2) My arms are SUPER buff! I could be a pro arm wrestler at the end of all this...I may finally be able to beat my 4-year-old in an arm wrestle ;) lol

3) I take up a lot more room...this may not seem like much of an advantage, but it really is. Like today, Braedyn was trying to get around me, and run away with a toy he took from his brother. All I had to do was one little twist of the arm, and I could block him in. When you're as tiny as me, it is very hard to take up this much room to trap your kids in. Also, it works great as a gate between couches to trap kids in the living room, so they don't go into Grandma and Grandpas bedroom while they're trying to put clothes away.

4) I never have to worry about finding a seat wherever I go. I have a permanent seat with me. I don't have to sit in those uncomfortable folding chairs either. And, I can add padding to make my seat more comfortable, and people don't look at me strange.

5) When my arms get tired, I can have someone else push me places. Just like kids in strollers. You know how when you go places, and you get so tired from all the walking. Then you see a kid in a stroller and wish you were them? Well, now I am them :)

6) After a long day of pushing myself around, and using muscles I never even knew I had, I have a great excuse for a back massage! All I have to say is "My back is killing me!" and my hubby knows exactly what that means ..."I need a massage or I'm gonna die!"

7) I can do wheelies ;) Well, sorta. I pretend their wheelies. They're more like pull the front wheels up for 2 seconds until they slam back down to the ground in an attempt to pretend I'm cool. But they are wheelies in my head, and that's all that matters :)

8) I get to sit at the little kids table at family dinner. This really is great! Have you ever sat at a table where there were 7 children, one just turned 5 in November, and all the others were 4 and under? These kids are all used to it being just the kids at the table. When I was there, I had a couple of them introduce themselves to me. I'm their aunt, and yes, they do know me. But I was new to the kids table, so they wanted to make sure I felt welcomed, I guess. Gotta love 'em!

So, you see, having a wheelchair isn't ALL bad. And I know you are all extremely jealous of me now. Although, the wheelchair will not be lasting long. I am way too stubborn, or bull-headed, or whatever you wanna call it. I am guessing less than a week, and the chair will be gone.

  1. You're amazing to look on the bright side of this, and you're right, I do envy not sitting on the uncomfortable folding chairs at church.....however, I think I take up plenty of space on my own, so while it's good for you, that would make me crazy. :)

    I hope you're out in a week!
