Physical Therapy-Let the fun begin!

Today was my first day of Physical Therapy...YAY!!!!! I am super excited! Basically because that means I will be able to get better much faster. And, you know, I could use a little exercise. I'm beginning to feel like a bit of a couch potato ;) lol.

So, I go in, and the physical therapist is this really goofy looking guy, don't remember his name at all, but he was really nice. He does all the basic intake stuff, you know, why can't you walk, blah, blah, blah. Then he does the strength tests. My right leg is umm...so, so. I mean, I can lift it, mostly, just no strength, like for the resistance test. my left leg on the other hand, well, like I said, it's a major slacker. It won't lift or resist. Pretty much, it needs to be slapped around a bit and get a little sense knocked into it...lol.

Then it was time for the exercises. So, I go into this big room with lots of machines. Unfortunately, there are so many machines in the room, there is not space for a wheelchair. Time to walk...yay me! So this really nice therapist brings me a very colorful walker. I stand up and start walking, and the guy is like holding me up by my pants, giving me a major melvin. He finally decided to grab this belt thingy and wrap it around my waist so he can hold it instead. The belt thing reminded me of those "stylish" belt things teenagers wear that are way too wide to fit through any belt loop on any pants, and they are up on their hip on one side, and hang down over their leg on the other side. I'm sure you all know what I'm taking about. Anyway, so I was saying how it reminded me of those, and I decided I was very stylish. About this time I realized there were about 8 other people in the room also doing physical therapy, who were all laughing at me. I went a little red, and just got on my cool stationary bike. Have you ever tried to pedal a bike when you have absolutely no muscle? It's hilarious!!!! They set the timer for 5 minutes, and I was pooped after 2 minutes. I think I probably looked like a 1 year old just learning how to pedal a bike. I totally reminded myself of Braedyn when he first learned how to pedal a bike. So, I laughed my way through it, and thought it was a great warm-up exercise. Everything from there basically wore me out after 1 minute. But it was really a GREAT experience for strengthening my muscles.

At the end of it all, the physical therapist spent about 10 minutes stretching those leg muscles. I am still flexible :) so that's great news! As he was stretching he was concerned we were working them too hard. I just told him "Hey, they get to rest the whole rest of the day. So, they have absolutely NO room to complain." I'm pretty sure the guy decided I was a crazy person by this point. Anyway, from now on I will be doing the therapy twice a week. He doesn't want to overwork them to begin with. I figure, they did the lowest weight on everything, and on one thing I was just pushing my own weight, so if my legs are that big of wimps, they need to buck up, and get with the program ;)

Anyway, so that was my first wonderful day of physical therapy. I'm completely exhausted, but it's a good exhausted :) And I am super excited!!!
