You know, the more I watch my 4-year-old, the more I think "I wish I could be 4 again". It seems to be such the perfect age. He is past the baby stage of not being able to take care of himself. He is potty-trained, he can read, he can let people know when something (or someone) is bugging him. So, he's fairly independent. 4 is old enough to be able to make friends. and everyone in the world is your friend. When you do get in a fight, you are mad at the person for maybe 5 minutes, and then you're best friends again. You have more than enough energy to do anything you want. You still get nap time (not that you always want it). You have a couple days of preschool, which is just enough to build a social network, and learn fun new things. The homework isn't completely impossible. You don't have to worry about working. Money is absolutely no worry, because you can buy anything with a penny (or so you think).
There are MANY reasons I now think 4 is the coolest age. However the best reason: Memory! Braedyn's memory is INCREDIBLE!!!!! I wish I had half his memory. A few days ago we were headed home from my parents house. All of a sudden Braedyn says "Mom, you know it's gonna be my birthday soon. Don't forget, it's on June 25th (yes, my boys both know I have a terrible memory, so they are constantly reminding me of things). I want it to be as cool as my last birthday. You know, for I turned 4." and then he went into every detail of his birthday "You and daddy came in my room, and you said 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!' then daddy shot me with that can of string stuff. Then, I came out of my room, and there was a big thing in my way, and I said 'what the heck!' and then it was Scooby Doo, and he said 'Happy Birthday!' then you got pictures. And we went to IHOP for lunch, and I told them it was my birthday, and they sang me happy birthday. and I got the smiley face pancakes. Then we went to Grandma's, and we had a party at Grandma's (then he named everyone that showed up, then mentioned those that didn't and why they didn't). And I had a cupcake. Do you know what was on the cupcake?" I told him I had no clue. He said "Sports! do you know what sport?" again, no clue. "It was Basketball, mom!" and then I jumped on the borthday jumpolene" My parents have a bounce house that we put out for his birthday parties. "And then I opened my presents" and he told me exactly what he got and from who. I was in shock. The only thing I remembered was scooby doo and IHOP. No, I do not have a clue what I ordered from IHOP that day.
It was then that I realized, I really do have a terrible memory. My sweet hubby laughed when I told him. He thought it was funny Braedyn can remember a year ago, and I can barely remember a day ago. And this is why if you want me to remember something, you better tell Braedyn. :)
