So, I have decided, once your children enter school, so are you, again! I think this is mostly true in the younger grades, since you can't just tell your child to go do their homework, cuz they have no clue how. Braedyn get a bunch of books to read every week. He does completely awesome at them, but I like to be right there just to make sure he is reading them right. He actually LOVES reading (not sure where he got that from). In fact, funny side story, the other day we were at my parents house. He got bored and said he wanted to go read. I said I'm not sure if they have any books for his age. He said he is a really good reader, so can read anything. He goes into the back room where all the books are, and comes out with a book in his hand. He holds it up and says "Mom, I want to read the scriptures". He had the Book of Mormon in his hand. He opened it up, saw there weren't any pictures and said "well this isn't a very fun book, it's all words, but I can read it anyway". He actually read the 1st verse of the 1st chapter of 1st Nephi before he decided it was too boring.
Along with reading, he also has at least one big homework assignment a night. The assignment can take anywhwere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes to do. Mostly depending on if Brock decides to "help". He knows most of the stuff they have him do in the homework, so I try to come up with ways to actually make him learn something with it.
I have been all good with the homework throughout the year. It hasn't been horrible. However, this week Braedyn came home with this paper about a report. He has 1 1/2 weeks (thankfully it's more than 1 night) to research an Arctic animal. He chose the penguin (or whatever the official name was they gave him). So, he has to research it, then on the blank page they gave him he has to write his name, the animal's name, draw a picture of the animal, write what he learned about the animal (with as little help in spelling as possible), then make a clay model of the animal. In Kindergarten!?!?! Really? What are the other grades gonna be like if that's Kindergarten.
Unfortunately, as anyone who knows me well, knows I am the biggest procrastinator. So, now I have the wonderful job of trying to teach my child to not procrastinate on his homework. I think we will do the report this weekend. How's that for not procrastinating :). It's actually not due until February 8th. If we get it done this weekend I will have to give myself a gold star ;)
